Brockport, NY – The women's soccer team returns home for a pair of matchups this week, beginning with Keuka College on Saturday, September 26th at 12 p.m. for Youth Soccer Day and the Morgan's Message Mental Health Awareness Game. The Golden Eagles will then host Alfred University on Wednesday, September 30th at 4 p.m. at their home turf.
Last Week Recap: The Golden Eagles opened the week with a 2-2 draw at SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday. Brockport struck first in the eighth minute when Amelia Breton found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Geneseo responded with two goals from Ella Yartym to take a 2-1 lead in halftime.
Brockport answered early in the second half as Elyssa Barnhart scored in the 56th minute to bring the match level at 2-2. Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the final 35 minutes, as the Golden Eagles earned a point in Empire 8 play.
Geneseo finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Cameryn Childs made eight saves in the Brockport goal, while Breton led the Golden Eagles with three shots. McKenna Slate recorded two shots and one on target, while Barnhart added two shots and one shot on goal.
Players to Highlight: Amelia Breton continues to lead the Golden Eagles offensively, entering the week with nine goals and 18 points through eight games. She has recorded 32 shots, including 17 on goal, while also registering three game-winning goals. McKenna Slate has added two goals and two assists, while Brianna Marino has contributed one goal and three assists. Kaitlyn Spring has also recorded two goals this season.
In goal, Emily McCane has played a major role for the Golden Eagles, recording 29 saves and a .806 save percentage through her first seven appearances. Cameryn Childs added eight saves in Wednesday's draw at Geneseo and has helped provide Brockport with depth in goal.
Scouting Keuka: The Wolves enter Saturday's matchup with a 4-3 overall record after earning a 3-2 road victory over Hilbert on Wednesday. Keuka opened the season with back-to-back wins over SUNY Morrisville and SUNY ESF before dropping three of its next four games against Alfred State, Russell Sage and Elmira. The Wolves have since responded with wins over SUNY Canton and Hilbert.
Keuka has scored 23 goals through seven games this season while allowing nine. Lydia Lane leads the Wolves with six goals, while Sam Bates has added four goals. Delaney Goodenow has contributed three goals and four assists, while Keuka has recorded 114 shots and 62 shots on goal this season.
The Wolves will look to carry their recent momentum into Brockport after scoring three goals on 22 shots in Wednesday's win over Hilbert.
Scouting Alfred: Alfred enters the week at 1-4-2 overall and 0-2 in Empire 8 play. The Saxons most recently fell to St. John Fisher, 4-0, on September 19th. Alfred was held to just two shots in the contest while Fisher recorded 18 shots, including 11 on goal.
Earlier in the season, Alfred earned its lone win against Elmira, while also recording draws against SUNY Canton and another opponent. The Saxons have faced a challenging schedule early in the season and will look to rebound when they return to action against Brockport.
