A two-year varsity wrestler, Foxen was the team captain in '73 and '74. A transfer from SUNY Maritime, he enjoyed a dual meet record of 22-0 in two seasons at Brockport. A three-time New York State college champion, he was named the SUNYAC Outstanding Wrestler in 1974. He earned NCAA All-America recognition in that same season.
Foxen's distinguished career in amateur wrestling includes three gold medals at the Empire State Games in the open division. A member of the U.S. national team which competed against the Soviet Union, Cuba and Japan, Foxen can boast of victories over 10 NCAA Division I champions during his stellar career.
Formerly active in coaching at secondary school and collegiate levels, Foxen started coaching as Don Murray's assistant in 1975. He became head coach at Deerfield Academy in 1978, assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts in 1979-80, and head coach at Amherst College in 1981 where he coached two Division III All-Americans,
