Three-year varsity football player for the Golden Eagles (1970-72); co-captain, leading rusher and leading scorer as a senior running back; also played freshmen football (1969) and was the player of the year on the freshmen team.

Most recently was the assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach for Syracuse University (2009-10); spent the 2000 to 2008 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) as an assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (tight ends coach, 2007-08), Seattle Seahawks (special teams coordinator, 2005-06), New York Jets (tight ends coach, 2004) and Oakland Raiders (special teams coordinator, 2000-03); went to the Super Bowl with Seattle (2005) and the Raiders (2002); was an assistant coach in the 2000 Pro Bowl while with the Raiders; from 1985 to 1999, was a major college assistant coach with Michigan State (special teams, tight ends, 1999), Georgia Tech (special teams, running backs, defensive ends, 1995-98) and Syracuse (special teams, recruiting coordinator, running backs, tight ends, 1985-94).

Coached at Henninger High School (assistant, 1973-82) and Baldwinsville High School (head coach, 1983-84) before starting his collegiate coaching career at Syracuse; is a member of several professional organizations, including the NYS High School Coaches Association (since 1973), the NCAA football coaches association (since 1985), the NFL coaches association (2000-08) and the NFL Alumni Association (since 2009).
