The 1992 Brockport wrestling team finished the regular season with a 9-0 record in dual matches.

Seven Brockport wrestlers won bids to the National Tournament and four wrestlers went 3-0 in the National qualifier.  The team entered the tournament with eight wrestlers and seven qualified for the National Championship.

The 1992 Brockport wrestling team produced six All-Americans.

Late Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Tournament, as the scores were tallied after the third-place matches had been completed and before the finals were to begin, all that was necessary to confirm what the Brockport fans wanted to hear was a scoring update.  When it was given, and with the Brockport ahead by 14.5 points, the tournament was over.  No one was going to catch the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles had the title wrapped up before senior's Chris Stevens and Brian Quick stepped onto the mat at the evening finals at Trenton State.

Quick won the 190 lb. finals. (2nd place the year prior). He became only the 3rd wrestler in Brockport history to win two national championships in his weight class.

The Brockport team National Championship was the 1st for Coach Murray since the Golden Eagles won back to back titles in 1982 and 1983.  This was the 5th National Championship for Coach Murray and the Golden Eagles.

For his efforts, Coach Murray was named the NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year.

Murray said after “I was also very happy with the kids on my team who did not go to Nationals but helped contribute to our success.  When you win a national championship, it is a team effort.”

When the team returned home they were greeted with a parade through town and a rally at the Tuttle North Building.
