Joan was a two-year standout (1987-89) within the gymnastics program; team captain; set records in the all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise during her two-year career; one of the leaders of the program that re-wrote all of the gymnastics records at the College in the late 1980s; one of the first two women in school history to qualify for nationals; did so in both her junior and senior years; ECAC Gymnast of the Week once; National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Academic All-American in 1989; named to the College's Athletic-Academic Honor Roll. Joan transferred to Brockport from the University of Pittsburgh where she was a Division I gymnast; graduated cum laude from Brockport; dressed as the school mascot, Ellsworth the Golden Eagle, for one year at all football, basketball, and ice hockey games. She graduated magna cum laude from Long Island University with a master's degree in physical therapy; has been employed by Schneider Children's Hospital and Nassau BOCES as a physical therapist, evaluating and treating children with various disorders; volunteers as a wish granter for the Make a Wish Foundation, the local PTA, and the American Diabetes Association annual walk-a-thon.
