Played goalkeeper on the men’s soccer team at the College in the mid-’50s, including 1955 when Brockport went undefeated and shared the National Championship with Penn State; was inducted as a member of that team into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 on the 50th anniversary of that accomplishment.
After Brockport, had a 27-year teaching and coaching career (led one of his high school girls’ basketball teams to a state title); in 1984, began a career that evolved into his recognition as the pre-eminent sports psychologist in the field, developing and implementing sport psychology programs for the Oakland Athletics, Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay Devil Rays of Major League Baseball; also has worked with four professional hockey teams; in 1999, became a full-time consultant in sports psychology and staff development for the Scott Boras Corporation.
Has done free-lance work with multiple athletes in a variety of sports; has written seven books, including Coaching the Mental Game; has lectured at major universities and corporations on psychology, self-enhancement, management strategies and leadership training; was inducted into the Brockport Alumni Association’s Hall of Heritage in 2003.
