After marrying in 1973 and settling in Brockport, George and Rosie became fully entrenched in The College at Brockport community; countless hours of their volunteer work and support for the Athletic Department are woven into the fabric of Golden Eagle Athletics; the couple attended nearly every home contest and many road games for all the different Brockport teams for more than three decades; combined to garner awards from the college including the 1998 Outstanding Service Award for Rosie, the 2004 Hall of Heritage induction for George and the 2012 Brockport Foundation Volunteers of the Year Award to George and Rosie.
Rosie (a SUNY Cortland graduate) taught in public schools in Troy, NY, Batavia, NY, and Ottawa, Ontario; taught at the college level at The College at Brockport, University of Buffalo and American University of Beirut, Lebanon; was the first Dean of Women at International College in Beirut, the first Director of Women’s Athletics at American University in Beirut, Assistant to the Dean of Students at St. Francis College in Loretto, PA, and Director of Diners Fugazy Travel School in New York City.
George (Brockport classes of 1954 and 1962) taught in the Rochester City School District for 36 years; was the editor of the Rochester Teachers’ Association Newspaper for 10 years, President of the Western Monroe County Historical Society for three years and President of the Brockport Alumni Association for six years.
The annual George M. Rich Award (athletics accomplishment and community service) is presented each year to the Most Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete at Brockport; the Eagle’s Lookout in SERC was made possible through a gift by Rosie in memory of George (who passed away in December 2011).
