Two-year member of the wrestling and lacrosse teams at Brockport; helped lead the wrestling team to its first national title in 1977 by placing fourth at the NCAA Championships and earning All-American status; won his weight class at the SUNYAC, Colgate, RIT and Grand Valley Michigan tournaments; posted a 36-2 record that season; in lacrosse, was an All-State selection in 1977 and led the team in scoring (55 points in 10 games; 10th in NCAA Division III) in helping the team to the SUNYAC title; had five goals and nine assists for 14 points against Potsdam; finished eighth in Division III in assists per game (3.4)
Transferred to Brockport; earned Associate’s Degree from Nassau Community College in 1975.
Was at Hauppauge High School for 27 years; head lacrosse coach for 20 years; Suffolk County Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2010; founder of Hauppauge HS lacrosse program (1987) and Hauppauge youth lacrosse program (1995); assistant wresting coach for 25 years; Suffolk County JV Wrestling Coach of the Year 17 times; won 2011 “Joe Campo” Grand Master in Wrestling Award.
